History
The Old English Sheepdog is one of the most ancient breeds in England. There is not much information about the past of this dog. In the 20th century their popularity increased and today it continues to be famous in dog shows around the world. The Old English Sheepdog Club of the United States was founded in 1904 and the breed was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club a year later.

Character and behavior
The Old English Sheepdog resembles a bear. It has a typical movement of the body, which includes a round back during the walk.
There are many breeds of shepherd dogs, but only the Bobtail combines the qualities like endurance, strength, natural prudence adaptability to changing climatic conditions and the required response in extreme situations. Old English Sheepdog is tied very much to the people and therefore should not be deprived of their company and love.

This is a very intelligent animal, easy to train and obedient. Use only positive methods and soon you will have a perfect companion that will execute your every command without hesitation.

Health problems
According to a recent research, the Old English Sheepdog has a life expectancy of about 8-9 years. Common diseases are hip displaziya, eye problems, cataracts, glaucoma, entropion, thyroid problems and others. Cancer is a major cause of death in these dogs. They are threatened by overheating in the summer because of the thick and long hair.

Grooming and care
The long shaggy coat of these dogs requires thorough brushing at least once a week, which can take 1-2 hours. Without regular care the long hair will start to tangle, which will cause its pollution by dust, moisture, urine and feces.
Combing should be carried out, starting from the base of the hair, to prevent splicing. Some people prefer to cut a part of the coat of the Old English Sheepdog. However, if you want to show your dog in dog competitions and exhibitions, you must keep their fur.
Generally, these dogs love large and open spaces, so it is recommended to grow them in rural areas and in houses with large yards.
