History
Of all the breeds, created by man, only a few have such a rich history, as the Pug. Myths and legends have accompanied these dogs since ancient times. Images of similar puppies are carved on jade or decorate pottery dating to the time of the birth of Buddhism. Ancient Indians repeatedly mentioned puppies with short snouts, but most likely pugs came from Chinese dogs.
In China there were dogs that were known as Pa and Lo Ze. These two breeds were almost identical, but Ha Ha were with longer hair. Lo Ze possessed a typical short velvet coat. Unlike the Pekingese, the Lo Tse lived in the homes of the rich and aristocrats. Only a few representatives of the breed lived with the Emperor and had no right to leave the palace. These dogs had their own servants. Breed standard was adopted in 1888.

Physical characteristics
The pug is a stocky dog with a compact body and well developed muscles. The head is large and round. The muzzle is short and dull, without chips. The eyes are very large, round, dark in color with a gentle and brilliant look. The ears are small and soft as velvet.
There are two varieties of ear shape. One is known as roses - these are small ears that are pulling back. The other type is so-called ear-buttons that are tightly adhered to the skull. The mouth of the Pug is arranged so that there is maloclusion. However, if you see the teeth when the mouth is shut, it is considered a disadvantage.
The chest of the pug is well developed. The legs have powerful paws, which have black nails. The coat is thin, smooth, short and shiny. The Pug can be colored differently, but it is always monochrome. The muzzle of the Pug has a dark mask and also has dark spots on the ears, and a dark line on the spine. There are silver, sand, brown and black Pugs. The ideal weight is from 6 to 8 kilograms.

Character and behavior
This dog is perfect for slackers, but the Pug also likes to play and is a great lover of games. It is a friendly dog that is strongly attached to all family members and gladly welcomes guests at home.

Training and education
The pug is a smart dog, but can show wayward character. The training is more an education as the puppy can show stubbornness, if not actively encouraged with treats and praise even at the slightest success. The Pug should be trained at a very young age - about 3 months. The dog will execute commands only if it senses that its owner treats him with respect and love.

Health problems
The life expectancy is about 12 to 15 years. These dogs are prone to breathing problems and eye irritation, skin allergies, colds and obesity.

Grooming and care
The coat of the Pug should be brushed once a week with a comb made of stainless steel. This helps the beautiful appearance and reduces the falling hair. Regularly clean the folds of the muzzle of the pug as they are a magnet for bacteria.
Although the pug does not need great physical effort, it should go for a walk every day. Furthermore, you should keep the pug from overheating and not expose it to drafts and excessive moisture.

Children and other pets
The Pug gets along well with other animals, but prefers the company of its owners. One of the reasons so many people are looking for puppies for sale of this breed, is the fact that they communicate freely and are kind and gentle with children.

Interesting facts
The wrinkles on the face of the Lo Tse were compared to the Chinese characters who carried a secret meaning. After the trade between China and Europe was established, these dogs became one of the attractions of the Old Continent. It is believed that the first Pugs arrived with a Dutch ship 400 years ago. They became favorites of European monarchs and aristocrats. In the Netherlands, the pug was known as Chinese Mastiff. Once it appeared in England, the Pug became the most popular dog at the time. By the time of the French Emperor Napoleon, the breed was a preferred pet among the aristocracy. Napoleon's wife Josephine never parted with her pug Fortuna and used it to send love letters to the emperor.
