  1. Labrador Retriever

Not only is the Labrador Retriever the dog breed which looks most like the Golden Retriever, but it is also the dog which most closely matches the personality of the breed. Just like the golden boy, the lab is incredibly popular all around the world for their active and friendly characters matched with how easy they are to train and their fantastic temperaments. The Lab is the perfect option whether you have children or live alone. It is very uncommon for a Lab not to get along with other people or animals.

The Beagle may not look all too similar to the Golden Retriever, but it certainly won’t struggle when it comes to offering you the same level of fun that you got with a Golden Retriever. They may be slightly lazier and considerably smaller, but they will still give you plenty of affection and make a great companion for children and adults.

The Bloodhound is quite the wildcard on this list. It may not be the cutest breed on the list, but their adorable temperament still makes them one of the best companions that you could ever hope for! You’ll just need to make sure you can handle one on the lead as they are incredibly strong and powerful animals. Despite their strength, they are incredibly calm and docile pups!

Going back to the dog breeds which bear some resemblance to the Golden Retrievers we have the Bernese Mountain Dog which shares the same silky coat, however, they will be considerably larger than your average Golden Retriever. But just as you saw with the Saint Bernard, they are incredibly soft and gentle. They are renown for their level-headed nature and their ability to adapt into the family home.

As the Chesapeake Bay Retriever and the Golden Retriever are both Retrievers they share some qualities, the main differences between the two breeds primarily come down to how differently they look. However, you’ll need to note that this breed will need plenty more exercise as they are a more work-orientated breed who will quickly become frustrated if they are left to get bored. They also aren’t as social as Golden Retrievers sadly!

The English Springer Spaniel has been a popular family pet for decades, this has much to do with their fun-loving and social personalities which makes them an absolute pleasure to be around! They’ll get along with pretty much anyone as they are incredibly skilled when it comes to making new companions! You’ll need a significant amount of energy to keep up with them though!

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the perfect choice if you are looking for a dog breed which isn’t as large as the Golden Retriever, and instead, you are looking for a pet which is much more adaptable to smaller living space. They are sweet and level headed dogs who are known to be incredibly social animals. However, they do not possess the same levels of energy as the Golden Retriever and they may not be able to stand the same level of rough handling as children tend to give pets.

There aren’t too many physical differences between the Great Pyrenees and the Golden Retriever they share the same soft, silky, and light coloured coats. However, traditionally, the Pyrenees had a different job to do! They were put in charge of guarding livestock and other property. Giant, they may be, but this doesn’t affect how level-headed the dogs are. If trained well, there should not be a bone of aggression in this dog breed’s body!

Okay, the Old English Sheepdog is somewhat of another wildcard in this list! Because let’s face it, there aren’t all too many dogs which look like the Old English Sheepdog, are there? Their iconic two-toned fluffy coat is seen with no other breed. But when it comes to their personalities, they do share many aspects with the Golden Retrievers such as their boundless amounts of energy and high levels of intelligence which is what makes this dog breed so trainable!
