The Corgi Pembroke, often called Welsh Corgi Pembroke is a very old English breed. According to a specialists, all varieties of Corgi arrived in Wales with the Celtic tribes. Despite its small size, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a service dog - it has helped for centuries with a protection of large herds of ungulates. They guided cows and bulls in a right direction by biting them on the legs, but do not get kicked thanks to their low height. According to experts who studied the history of the breed, the Pembroke Corgi appeared well after the Cardigan Corgi. In 1934 the standard has been adopted, according to which the Corgi Pembroke and Cardigan are two different breeds. At that time was decided that a tail should be docked. However, in Western Europe, there are many representatives of the breed, that have long tails.

Some representatives of the breed are black, but this is very rare.
